Ryanair fly from the uk to many Italian airports(Stanstead to Lamezia) and transfer via rail or car hire. Ryanair Dublin to Milan Malpensa then connect to Lamezia appears best for Irish visitors. The nearest airports are Lamezia and Reggio di Calabria.Easyjet fly from Gatwick to Catania. Al Italia fly to both Lamezia and Reggio probably via another Italian airport.

Aer Lingus - Dublin/Catania : Hotel Villa Romeo or Hotel di Curtis (ref:Bookings.com) hotel close to the Railway Station for train transfer to Messina(if an overnight is required). Try" Il Primo Piano" restaurant nearby or restaurant "Tale" .Also there is a bus from the Airport to Messina which is a good option. There is a fast ferry now to Reggio Lido(€3.50) also and then train transfer to Roccella,or you can take the normal cheaper ferry to Villa San Giovanni(€1.50).
